To have a chance to try a new restaurant, new food, new flavors is something that always brings a smile to my face. I can’t understand how some people that go to the same restaurant every week and eat the same food. Cooking is an art. Cooking is magical because you can transform that ingredient into something else totally unexpected. Trying new food is always a mystery because you never know what you are going to get.
Last week we went for the first time to…
Gastropod is an Epic Ales brewpub created by Chef Travis Kukull and Brewer Cody Morris. Besides the fact that Gastropod is local and getting great reviews (here), Marilyn worked with Travis before and we wanted show our support. So, the restaurant it is a little place with a small bar, maybe 10 seats, which were almost all filled when we arrived. In the same room as the bar was a table with about 8-10 seats, and another room with a similar arrangement only without the bar. I think total seating is around 25 people.
I had the pleasure to meet another chef in town, Tiffany, who works there as well. Marilyn also worked with her at Tilikun Place Cafe.
Each item on the menu has a suggested beer pairing, or two or three. The beers on their own are extremely interesting, yet still refreshingly tasty and unique in this over saturated craft brew market. The menu is small but creative and truly unique, the prices are more than reasonable and everything is De-licious. A 6oz beer for $2 dollars!! My favorite beer was the peach one and for Marilyn it was the beet.
We had this amazing cold melon soup.
Asian broccoli with nuts.
Flatbread is something that doesn’t catch my attention… the few time that I tried it I wasn’t like “wow”… So, when Marilyn ordered this porccini flatbread with eggs… I was almost sure I wouldn’t like it… SURPRISE! I love it, love it, love it!
My favorite dish was Okonomiyak it was a fish made with cabbage, roasted peach.. It was amazing!
This day I really wanted to wear this maxi dress with this gold/purple blouse that I bought last year and I never wear it anymore.
So to break the sparkle and look more casual I wore these flat sandals with a gold metal stripe.
And Ms. American wore amy pants with this cool black tee, brown hat and oxford.
You can watch the videos we made on Instagram (here) from there. We didn’t take a lot of photos because we were sooo excited with the food and beer that we forgot … bad bloggers! lol
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook (if not, you should! lol) Marilyn went to San Diego for a business trip. And she brought to me some gifts… yaaayyy! And also she bought for us a couple bottles of Leblon cachaça and tequila. It is so crazy how much we pay for alcohol here in Washington.. this is ridiculous! The same cachaça we pay here for 40.00 she paid $21.00 dollars there. Isn’t that CRAZY??? When she told me the price she was smiling, laughing… almost crying… you know how much we love our cocktails! She gave me this wine corks holder. It’s a boot shape! lol
I told you that my BFF is coming from Paris and we are cleaning and organizing our house to have them here with us for one week. Our kitchen is my favorite place in the house. It is so cute! There are white French style cabinets, there’s also shelves with some of Marilyn’s cookbooks and we use wine boxes to put our alcohol in. Organizing the kitchen Marilyn found some vintage pictures… we bought last year at the Puyallup Fair and we forgot to hang them..so we did.
I hope you have an amazing weekend with lots of smiles!
