Concealer is the “other “makeup tool that became essential in my makeup routine. However, it took me a long time to find the best product for what I was looking for: to eliminate dark circles and brighten under-eye areas. I never found both things in one product, even though I had tried so many and explained to so many beauty salespeople what I wanted and needed…..
My favorite way of eliminating dark circles and waking up a tired eye is to combine an opaque, full-coverage concealer with a highlighter pen. They are perfect together! The mixture of a concealer and highlighter pen together creates the right texture around the eye. When I use the concealer alone it can leave my skin looking cakey and looks like I have more wrinkles than I already have!.. Urrgggg
These are the concealers I’ve been using:
MAC Studio Finish (here): It was the first concealer I ever bought. It is creamy and incredibly opaque. As you know, my skin has always scarred very easily from acne, and on top of that, the scars will ALWAYS turn into extremely dark brown spots on my skin which take forever to go away. This concealer has no problem covering those spots. I have to moisturize first my under eyes if not creases very bad!
Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer (here): Great under eye concealer, they provide medium to full coverage. She starts with Corrector, which is either pink- or peach-toned, to brighten and neutralize the purple and green tones of under eye circles. The yellow based concealer is applied over the top for a smooth look, to cover and brighten the area.
Laura Mercier – Secret Camouflage (here): Bobbi Brown Corrector and Laura Mercier Concealer are basically the same products. for correctors, Bobbi Brown is best. For concealer, definitely Laura Mercier.
Select Cover Up by Mac (here): It’s basic liquid concealer that gets the job done. It will add hydration and abit more of a natural finish than studio finish. However if you want a more high coverage concealer I would say choose studio finish but I would suggest you use a blending brush to apply this as it can drag if applied by fingers I find.
Highlighter pens are quick and easy to use and give an instant glow when applied over foundation. However, it must be remembered that these are not true concealers; they do exactly as their name suggests: highlight, illuminate and emphasize.
For some, the secret to even skin tone is the right foundation. I’ve found that the right concealer and a highlighter pen goes a long way towards giving the skin a more perfected appearance with foundation. My favorite “combo” is Secret camouflage combined with the prep + prime highlighter pen….
